Ok I'll give a little day by day of our trip to Antigua. I'll save the best for last, or in our case the worst.
Monday: We stay at my wife's brother's house in Chicago. We get up at 3:00 am to get to the airport by 4 am. We arrive at the airport get settled in. Our flight leaves at 6:30 am. We are on AirJamaica. We actually take off on schedule. We get settled in the air they serve us breakfast, both Julie and I have the cheese omlette. They show us a movie (my first on a plane) it was "Bringing Down the House", which we have already seen but it doesn't matter. We land in Montego Bay Jamaica at about 1030 am or so. The airport is right by the ocean, in fact when you land all you see is water until you land. We get off the plane on the tarmac of course, it's hot and humid, always a great combination. I was like let's hurry up to get in the air conditioned airprot. What do you know but the a/c doesn't work, Jamaica 1 Chris 0. So we sit in a hot ass airport for two hours. Our only refuge is the Margariataville in the airport, no a/c but they have alcohol. So I get a Red Stripe and the old lady gets a $10 margarita. So we bored the plane on time (thank God). So in 2 1/2 hrs we will be in Antigua.....we land no problem. We get into the airport and thankfully it has a/c. We go through customs w/o a hitch. We go outside and the bus for the Sandals resort is ready and waiting. We get in then the driver gets in the passanger side, oh wait they drive on the opposite side here. This should be fun. We start to drive and everything is bass ackwards. The streets there are very, very narrow, when it looked like we were going to hit someone head on and our driver swerves to the left I nearly shit myself because in America in the same situation you'd swerve to the right, which I was expecting him to do. But since it's all opposite there he goes the opposite way and I nearly have my first heart attack (there will be another instance later). So Antigua is a poor country. Were driving and we see chickens, goats, cows and dogs just wandering the streets. They also have huge speed bumps in the middle on the streets so you don't speed too much. So the drive was like 10 minutes, nothing but old houses and dessert like conditons. Then we turn a corner and it is paradise. This gate opens and we are now in heaven. Beautiful flowers, palm trees, these little lizards that are everywhere (but not in your room). So we check in they give us some champange, a wet cold towel, more champange, and then it's off to our room. Nice room, not that it really matters since we aren't going to do more than sleep and ;) there. We got to the resort at 1630 ( 4 pm) EDT. Only a hour ahead so no big deal. We get setteld and just relax for a little bit and then get ready for dinner on the beach. We meet a nice couple from NYC, he's a firefighter and she is a teacher. We would later find out that my wife and I are like the only couple who doesn't have a teacher in it, very wierd. So we are talking to Alex and Melissa from NYC and the subject of 9/11 comes up and he was there, not when they collapsed but very shortly after that. It was inteseting hearing from someone who was there. He said they lost 9 guys from his firehouse, I guess he was lucky that he started out the day having off from work. After dinner we are entertained by a guy who eats and plays w/fire. It was interesting. Then we go back to the room all tired and shit and what is on the tv but Pulp Fiction, it almost can't get anybetter than this, but it does......Ok guys I have to go to work, tomorrow I probably won't post but if I do it will be late. So look for Tuesday and Wenesday's activities in Antigua on Wed. The old lady and I are getting a cat and then it's off to work, that is why there may not be a post tomorrow.
